Day 19: Express an Opinion

Can you tell this is my favorite thing to do?  I can't resist!  :)  Yesterday's (today's) post about day 15 - 17 is pretty much my opinion on blogging for other people, as opposed for yourself.  I imagine that expressing your opinion would be difficult for more reserved people?  Or perhaps for people concerned with accuracy??  … [Read more...]

Day 15 – 17: blog buddies, buddy watching, buddy instruction

Sorry People - I thought I'd posted this a couple days ago!! Okay, so I`m sensing a theme among ProBlogger`s posts of late: social networking.  Blogging is social; it is communication.  Here`s my take on this. To some extent, I like to think that I`m writing into the void.  My personal blog is my place to record the memorable, the funny, and photos, the petty, etc.  It just exists.  And the longer I blog, the less I care if people read it.  I will probably blog for as long as my mother reads it.  I keep some friends, and family up to date - because I SUCK at keeping in touch with my … [Read more...]

Day 14: Update a Key Page

Oh my goodness, this is a biggie.  If  you're like me, you have a list about a mile long of all the things you'd like to do on your front page, let alone the comments, and about pages.  Not to mention the contact and subscribe buttons.  This blog, and my other two should probably be the shining examples of blog layout and function, as that is what I do, however.  Have you heard the tale of the shoemaker's children?  Yeah.  In a nutshell, they're the ones without shoes.  Which lights a fire under me every once in a while, a rare once in a while, to make some necessary updates.  Here's … [Read more...]

Day 13: Shopping and People Watching!!

Oh, these are MY kind of assignments!  :) So, Day 14 of 31 DBBB at Problogger: Go to the mall and observe marketing trends, the ways the display, creativity, color are used.  Perhaps do some people watching too. Okay, so I tried this.  I spent an hour at the mall, but my ADD wouldn't let me observe what was going on... there are way too many sparkly and shiny things to drag me in.  Apparently I'm a sucker for marketing and sales techniques.  :)  I sat down at the food court, and could only think of how I was going to avoid the Dairy Queen ice cream shop.  Uggg. How did it work for … [Read more...]

Day 12 31DBBB: Editorial Calendar {printable}

After I read ProBlogger's Day 12 of 31 Days to Build a Better Blog, I immediately thought of creating an online editorial calendar - type tool that I could use.  I like to be obsessive like that.  If you are a pen & paper person like me, you can print this editorial Calendar from your browser and complete it, or you can copy to your own google docs or word processor to complete digitally. The gist of today's assignment is to create a schedule for the coming weeks, of which posts you'll publish, and on what days.  While you're organizing your posts from yesterday's Mind Mapping … [Read more...]

Forums, Alerts, and Mind-mapping

So, any thoughts on day 9 through 11? #9 Forums: My take is that it is a good idea.  And I don't have the time.  I found it particularly helpful in today's (day 11)post that he shared his time management priorities, although vaguely.  I too think that I'm going to have to put more time into the networking, learning, and assisting side of my blog to really make it useful to myself and others.  Which leads me to: #10:  Set up Alerts (personal, and key words) THIS is something I can do.  Honestly?  I haven't quite figured out 'digg' and 'delicious' et al.  I've signed up, looked … [Read more...]

How to Schedule a Post in WordPress

I'm not sure if Darren will cover this in this particular 31 days, but it is a great tool to keep the blog rolling, even when you're not.  So much.  Rolling.  And I get a lot of questions about this not working in wordpress.  Also I receive comments from people finding that it is a bit "flakey"; meaning one day it will publish on time, and the next time, it won't publish anything.  This is user-error probably just because you forgot to click on "Publish". If you follow this carefully, it will work EVERY time. Write a post or draft.  Save Draft. Go to the "Publish" panel, click "edit" … [Read more...]
