WordPress Tip: easily add tags and categories to lots of posts

If you are like me, there are posts where you were just stuck as to how to organize them, what categories and tags should really be attached. So you probably just published the post with the good old standby “uncategorized” category.

When it is time to organize those posts and bring some of that writing to light again, you can do this quickly and easily in the bulk editing screen.

  1. Log into the admin panel (or back end) of the blog.
  2. Open the “Posts” panel to view a list of your posts.
  3. Select the “uncategorized” from the category drop down, and click on “filter”.
  4. Under “bulk actions” in the header row, is a check box and a “posts” label. Click on the check box to select all the posts
  5. Click on the “bulk actions” drop down menu, and select “edit”, click on “apply”.
  6. You can now edit all of the selected posts, and “x” the ones that are in the bulk edit box that shouldn’t be.
  7. You can now edit the categories, tags, publish status, comments and ping status in one click. Click on the “[more]” beside the categories to see all the categories.
  8. one NOTE: double check each post if you are de-selecting a category as this feature sometimes does not work
