Darren Rowse (a very successful full-time blogger) recommends that you diversify your income streams[1]. In this part IV of our Revenue Streams series[2], we’re going to look at how to create and/or sell a product that would benefit your readers. That is the key – Your Readers = Buyers. They deserve the best! And if anybody knows what they need or want – its you!
Also, lets not forget that they keep coming back to your website to see what you’ve written – so your regular readers are the key to what product you can sell.
6 Books a Blogger Could Sell
1. Are you a food blogger? How about a Cookbook?
Examples:
-
- Veg 4 Health
- Your Home Based Mom College Cookbook
2. Are you writing family updates and newsy stuff? Would your readers want a professionally bound Scrapbook of family memories? Perhaps something along the lines of the Chicken Soup series?
3. Are you an organizer? Decorator? Home keeper? How about a “Guide to … ”
Example:
-
- Everything I Know about Perfectionism I learned From my Breasts
4. Do you offer printables? product reviews & giveaways? Perhaps your readers would be interested in a Catalogue or Annual Index.
Examples:
-
- List Plan It
- Dine Without Whine
5. Are you a great writer (we’re all good writers, but do you know the great writers?) These are the ones with tons of comments, people can relate, they feel compelled to comment – they want more! And if you offered a self-published book or professionally marketed book, they would be all over it.
Example:
- To: A True Story in Letters (funny! CarolynOnline) &
- By The Way: A Memoir of Religion, Abuse, and Redemption (So beautiful and heart warming – by Jaime Chase)
6. Photographer? Photography blog? Crafting blog? Foodie? Perhaps your readers would love to get a coffee table book full of beautiful things to look at when they’re offline.
MY EXCUSE
There has been a need and a call for several books in my niche, and I’ve been reluctant to begin, it just seems like such a HUGE process to write a book. However, I have good news! The more I research, the more I read, the more tools there are to make creating your book (&maybe mine too) so much easier! Have a look at these:
3 Ways to Publish
- Free – your blog! And a Word Processor like the free ZoHo Writer (I really like their notebook, because I can add stuff from the internet and move stuff around. Very cool!)
- E-book: 75% commission on your sale price at Lean Pub. VERY easy to use – upload your blog, edit, publish.
- Self-Publish: Create Space lets you upload your book, create a cover, select binding, colors, sizes. Then you select your price per book, they deduct their costs based on your choices, and then you get the rest as a royalty. No minimum orders. The calculator I played with usually worked out to 50% commission – depending on whether I was looking for professional cover design, color print, etc.
