Take your blogging to the next level

Announcing the PBEVENT Virtual Ticket

I've just recently discovered that Darren Rowse of Problogger.net has been holding live training events in Australia.  He's someone that every serious blogger should definitely follow (more closely than I have obviously). They are now offering a virtual ticket - meaning you save the travel / accommodation costs.  I recommend this event because there is so much information on Problogger.net that it can get overwhelming. It is hard to know where to start and what to do first. I'm sure this event will be packed with enough information to overwhelm as well, but the virtual ticket allows … [Read more...]

Taking a Little Break (except from emergencies!)

It doesn't happen often, but it's needed! Your business and web services are very important to us so time off is something that doesn't happen often.  But as mentioned, it's needed -- to rest, to rejuvenate, and to just relax. The DSWP offices will be closed from Saturday, July 21st through Sunday July 29th. What does this mean for you? For our retainer clients, we'll still be monitoring your sites just like we always have.  Any upgrades will take place upon our return. For those of you who have something that needs to be done, we'll get to it as soon as we return. For … [Read more...]

Server Attack Today – All is Well Now

At 4:22PM today (PST) our server went down due to high load.  After some investigation our server technicians let me know that we were experiencing a "... a coordinated, distributed attack against multiple sites on the server..." Of course that sent me into dizzying interrogation mode to find out - who was the intended victim of this attack; which sites were attacked; and the big one: why? Our techs let me know: No one account was causing these issues, rather it was a coordinated, distributed attack against multiple sites on the server. Who was the target? Random sites on the … [Read more...]

Help Me Choose a New Logo?

tri-color smile

So, this "despirately - disperately - desparately"seekingwp.com domain name has been a bit of trouble in the spelling department.  And its ridiculously difficult to spell over the phone. As much as I love Heather - (in fact the domain name was why I started reading her blog - how can you not feel a kinship with someone desperately seeking sanity?) - I've purchased a new domain name to go with my tagline: your friendly geeks. Now, comes the difficult part - re-branding!  Dianne and I put our heads together and have some options.  But I want to know what y'all think. Which do you … [Read more...]

I’m using this platform for a political post

Do you still shine with youthful optimism?  How do you feel about idealism?  This morning, and I may regret this - I'm sharing some idealism that I just witnessed.  It's youthful, it's optimistic, it may be overly simplistic as most idealism is. It's an idea.  An idea that a few kids, ok, 20-somethings -  can make a difference in the world. Let me back up a bit.  When I was a teenager, my family moved to Zaire for three years.  Along with the other diplomats' children and missionary kids I attended a boarding school.  Among my roomies were were Swedish, Norwegian, Zairian and … [Read more...]

SOPA 101 – Should you Strike too?

SOPA Infographic

Tomorrow is an important day if you are anti-SOPA.  And I'd like to give you the brief overview of both sides, and what you can do, if you're so motivated. Here's my quick summary courtesy of Mashable and TechCrunch. Anti-SOPA crowd says: this will allow legislation that will allow censorship.  We would all agree that there are some sites that simply shouldn't be online - I'm thinking of my kids and freaks out there who like to exploit them, as one example.  However, the end-game means that website owners would become responsible for the content on the site, which in turn means no … [Read more...]
