In this tutorial, we’ll cover two ways of adding a flickr image into your WordPress posts or pages.

1. Step One: Log into Flickr

2. Step Two: Click on Share

When you click on Share – > More share options, get the BBcode – and it will look something like this:

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/27186552@N08/3991626682/][img]http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2592/3991626682_d372402407.jpg[/img][/url]
[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/27186552@N08/3991626682/]blue rose[/url] by [url=http://www.flickr.com/people/27186552@N08/]o2cathy[/url], on Flickr

3. Step Three: Paste into Post

You have two options. If you want to place the image (as is), you can use the regular flickr link:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/27186552@N08/3991626682/

 Paste this link into the visual editor where you want the image to show up.

If you’d like to use the image with the built-in WordPress capabilities – to align it in the text, add borders, titles, and captions, then you need the actual image – not the flickr link. The image link is the one that ends in …..jpg.

Like this: http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2592/3991626682_d372402407.jpg

Because this is an actual IMAGE link, you can use the “add an image” button in your post editor, found here:

And click on the “From URL” tab here:

Add your URL, a title (for good SEO), alternate text – for voice browsers, a caption (optional), alignment, and a link. Then click Insert into Post.

Questions?

Wendy had emailed earlier this week with a tip for adding watermarks to your photos. The first photo below from Wendy’s blog is a little naked at the moment. What we’re aiming for is a watermark similar to the photo on the right from the Picky-Palate blog.

No Watermark

Bottom left hand corner - Watermark

Wendy, La Phemme Phoodie, with gorgeous photos all over her foodie blog, wrote this:

I exchanged messages with Jenny at PickyPalate. She uses Picnik. I have been using Picnik so I was thrilled to hear she was doing it on their site. It’s super easy.

On the Create tab, click in to Text. Type your text, Add it, and toggle through over 100 fonts until you find the right one. Click and drag the text wherever you want, and use the circles around the box to both resize and rotate. The ‘Text Properties’ box lets you adjust the color, Size, Fade, and both horizontal and vertical flip. Use the Advanced Blend Modes to instantly transform your text into a perfect watermark.

Tip: Use keyboard shortcuts to move your text in exact increments. If you’re a perfectionist, you can use your keyboard arrows to move text very slightly, Shift+arrows moves it a little more, Ctrl+arrows moves text a lot.

Picnik is a program online, where for $25 a year (or free for the lesser version) you can edit your photos easily. Click here to view all the options (and there are a lot of them!):

Let me know if you end up giving picnik a try!

How to Speed Up Your “Internet”

Most people still use Internet Explorer for their internet use. But there are far better options. Why better? Because Internet Explorer has its own set of rules – which is why Designers and Developers tend to gripe about it<del datetime="2010-05-30T17:54:57+00:00"> a bit</del>. Ahem. Have you tried Firefox? Or Chrome? Chrome for Windows is my latest browser. I’ve been using it for 4 months or so, and I love it. It loads 20 tabs or so at a time, and doesn’t crash. Thats reason enough for me! If you want to try Chrome, you can use it on Mac or PC. And this article – is a great list of add-ons (the reason so many people use Firefox) available for Chrome!

Get Chrome here. Then read the article and jazz it up here.

A Not-Do List

Not Do List

There is something very freeing, about intentionally saying ‘no’. Why not create your own “Don’t” list? For example, a few of mine:

Home Made Baking (except pancakes)

Answering the (home)Phone immediately

Flash, JS, or PHP writing

Parent Volunteering at School

Putting away hubby’s clothing

30 Seconds to Increased SEO

Add the proper titles, alt text and captions to your images, and you will increase your Search Engine visitors by 20% or more I guarantee it!

For example, while writing this post about Zemanta, it suggested the LINK – Zemanta, and the accompanying copyright image that you see here. All I did was click on them and they were automatically put in the right place on this post.
