How much does Blogging Cost you?

I'm adding up my monthly costs including premium plugins, themes, (negligible when spread out over the life of the theme) domain name, and hosting.  Maintenance fees or technical advice if necessary too.  How does it add up for you?  And do your choices make a difference when you are a hobby blogger or a pro blogger? … [Read more...]

I'll show you mine if you show me yours!

Desktop

One of the things that gets away from me is my desktop.  Not my real desktop, which is my lap most days, (donations toward a proper chair can be made directly) but the computer's desktop.   When you start up your computer there is the starting screen - that is the desktop. And if you do any amount of downloading or uploading or typing, you can end up with quite a mess on there - all my most commonly used programs are on there, my windows vista sidebar, calendar, pretty picture, commonly used files, recent downloads, a few files, and a few zipped things which I haven't managed to open … [Read more...]

Time to Hit the SEO Bandwagon

Okay girls (& guys), its time we figured out a thing or two about how to get our blogs to show up in Google searches.  Personally, I've postponed, avoided, dreaded, and dabbled with it, but haven't simply done it.  And now we've arrived at a new year, the internet is buzzing louder than ever, and there is more information than one girl can ever get through.  So I have a proposition for you. I'll do the research.  I'll read up on the best sites.  I'll read the Webmaster documentation straight from the horses mouth.  And I'll present to you digestible bits.  If you have trouble … [Read more...]

Redesign in Progress

Jan. 7 notes This is definitely the wrong order to do things in. But here I am, nonetheless. Take heed - it is much easier to put all the elements together in a graphics program, than live with html! I am referring to finding a place for networking profiles - twitter, facebook, subscribe, newsletter, etc. I had planned the top nav bar, I had planned the top of the sidebar - with the links to the Members site, I had planned the header. I had planned the background, and the page transparency. I completely overlooked where to put the profile buttons! So now, I'm back to the drawing board. … [Read more...]

Pink for October – huh?

So yesterday I was so proud of myself that I told you all about my new plugin, and neglected to tell you WHY I wrote a plugin to place a pink ribbon on your blog.   So here's the short scoop from Pink for October website: " Web sites will Go Pink during the month of October to bring attention to Breast Cancer Awareness Month, get people talking about breast cancer, and raise money for research. But to be clear, raising money isn’t the primary purpose of this web event. The hope is that you turn your site pink (in whatever way works for your site), go out to that World Wide Web thing and … [Read more...]

How to remove the generic title of your blog…

When you install your wordpress blog, the only things it asks you for is your blog name and your email address. So you enter them.  Then you upload the fancy new "clothes'' that you've just had designed for you and your blog title, appears in the header. You do what seems the simplest fix and that's to take it out of the Title line in the settings, but then you realize that your RSS feed doesn't show your blog title. And we can't have that, can we? Believe it or not, there's a simple fix. For most templates, you're going to want to go into your header.php file and find the string that … [Read more...]
