Under Plugins, Add New, search for “broken link checker”, install, ‘install now’, and activate.

There’s no clicking around to open all the posts, and finding the links, and editing them all manually. This plugin gathers all the links that are returning with errors and puts them all in one screen for you. When you edit the broken link, it will automatically add a redirect so there are no further broken links caused by the change. The latest update to this plugin also parses the blogroll links! This is SO handy!

The options screen is “Broken Links” under Settings.

The broken links summary is under Tools.

The link text, is the text that is linked.

the link is the address that is broken

“Discard” will only remove it from this summary page. It will leave the text and link in place.

“Exclude” will add this url to the list of links that won’t be checked.

“Edit” will let you change the broken link, and create a redirect so it won’t break incoming links.

“Unlink” will let you unlink the broken url, and keep the text in place.

Under the post title, you can go to the post to edit it directly, view or delete it.

I don’t know if you noticed this, but on an upgrade this year (which one was it, heather?) we lost the “ID” column in the Manage>Posts screen. And yes, I know, you’ve never used it, and really don’t care.

But… I do bring you useful information each week, do I not? Here’s why you care. That particular column made using the CREF plugin stupid-easy. You will LOVE the CREF plugin if you:

have a cooking blog

photo blog

write a bunch of posts that you want linked together

want to add links of your best work into a post or page.

I regularly make lists of my recipes on my gluten-free blog, mainly to participate in Menu memes. Because of this CREF plugin, this is all I need to do to make my list:

[cref ID}

[cref ID]

[cref ID]

Where “ID” is the number of the recipe post. How cool is that? No more find it, copy the url, click on the infinity symbol up there (What’s with that anyway?) and paste. Times 7 recipes.

Another use is adding links to similar photos in your photo blog. TOLD you it was useful!

How To

So, first download and install the plugin: Reveal ID’s so now you can see the ID numbers.

Now you are good to go with the Cross-References plugin. Any questions?
