Gimme Gimme
Each year around this time, my kids and I get together and plan a 12 Days of Giving celebration. The main point is to shift the focus from ‘Gimme, gimme’ towards something a little more attractive. My kids adore this, and surprisingly so do I! The first year we made dog blankets for the local dog shelter, rolled our coins for a homeless shelter, made Christmas ornaments and left them on our neighbour’s door handles, made and delivered a hot meal to a new mom, and more that I can’t recall at the moment. In all it was 12 random acts of service, only one or two that really cost us anything.
From our business to yours?
I would love to do this on a business to business level. When I was googling for new ideas, it is readily apparent that “Days of Giving” is just another marketing campaign – another sale for a lot of companies. I regret to say that is not what this is! Each year as a company, DSWP supports the Kiva foundation (small business loans), World Vision (small business loans to women), and donate a couple of new websites to worthy causes (one public education site, one other). I’ve had the privilege of giving away websites and our services to whoever I choose.
How about you take a turn? Who would you like to see benefit from free services by DSWP?
Recipients should meet the following criteria:
- couldn’t normally afford our services
- not-for-profit or charity or friend
- a cause you love & support
Hello!
I would love to nominate my child’s preschool. Between the two children, this is our family’s 7th (and last) year at the school and my 5th year on the board of directors.
The Cooperative Nursery School is the longest licensed preschool in our community. It is a parent cooperative, meaning it is parent owned. Parents work in the classroom alongside the teacher. This enables children to get to know many different adults and vice versa. It really is a family environment.
Because the school is a not-for-profit, it’s sometimes difficult to pay for service such as web design. Many families are finding our preschool through internet searches. An item that has been on our agenda for years is improving our website and increasing SEO.
I would love it if DSWP could help improve the site or give us some direction as to what needs work, visually and in terms of SEO.
Thank you!

Thank you Leighanne! I would love to be involved! I’ll be in touch if there’s something we can do.
What a great idea, Cathy. Sounds like you & the kids have so much fun in those 12 days
(I don’t have any cause to nominate, just wanted to give you a pat on the back for this!)
Thanks Tzaddi! I love keeping up with you on FB!
