Day 8-ish of 31DBBB

How are we doing so far with the 31 Days challenge?

We have some catching up to do, so here’s my notes and a question or two.

1 – Write an elevator pitch Do you know what I say when someone asks about my blog?  “It’s just a Mommy Blog.”  I don’t even want to go there with that pitch!

This is my new pitch: A place to collect the funny parts of life; tips to keep dust bunnies comfortable.  And my super secret goal is to make supermom wannabes think; and encourage brand new mommies to relax!

What do you think?  Add yours to the comments so we can be lured to your blog!  :)

2 – Write a List Post I have a question for you – do I have to instruct on something?  Cause that’s really no fun, except for here, where I get to espouse all my WordPress knowledge.
3 – Promote a Blog Post I’ve run out of time, can someone sum up the idea here?
4 – Analyze a Top Blog This I find discouraging, because I think that most top Mommy bloggers are so much better writers than I am.  And I’m unsure how to proceed with becoming a better writer other than to practice.  I have, in the first year of blogging sought advice from bloggers that I admire, one of whom was Heather Jacobson, my sister-in-crime on this blog.  And we struck up a friendship from that conversation.  (at least, I call her a friend.  She calls me a stalker, potAEtoes, potAWtoes)
5 – Email a blog reader Does it count if I’m begging, no pleading for comments?  (it’s an addiction, i swear)
6 – Reading List of 27 Posts Okay – who did this?  And which did you like the best?  Which ones MUST I read?
7 – write a link post I’ve been trying to do this on my Mommy Needs Motivation blog in order to link up all kinds of fun things that I find during the week, to introduce my readers to more blogs, and especially to find a comic or cartoon.  Frankly, you don’t want to see my ‘cartoons’.  (more like stick people)
8- Interlink old posts This one I do quite regularly with my recipe blog – linking one meal together with the sauce, salad, and side dish.  I use an awesome plugin that inserts teh link for me as soon as I tell it the post ID – I use “Reveal Ids for WP Admin” and “Cross References”.  I love both of them!

Okay, I’m really looking forward to reading the responses to this one, and I’ll be by to visit your blogs and see what you’ve done with it this week!

Wishing you bloggy best,

Cathy

I try to never say that my blog is a mommy blog. I’m okay with parenting, memoir, or daily life.
I use lists a lot so I did “Why I video blog.” No instructions.
Don’t be discouraged about your writing! Allison Worthington aka MrsFussypants built her readership around photos.
I didn’t read the list long list of tips and tutorials. I just marked it for later. I already read Liz Strauss. I’ve been to Daniel Scocco and Chris Brogan’s blogs. I’ll probably head to the last 3 on his list first.

If you leave me a comment I’ll email you. :)

Ah, a little humor to put it all into perspective. Day 6 – I definitely did not get to the 27 posts – thought you would…just kidding, saving those for a rainy day – that was information overload!

Day 2 – no it can be a list of anything, jut by doing the re-cap you complete – you can check it off!

Day 3 was a lot to digest but basically it was about promoting your blog via social media – facebook posts, twitter tweets, Digg, StumbleUpon, etc. Also asking other bloggers to be guest posts, etc.

Yours is the last post I am reading tonight before bed, I like the light-heartedness about it, you made me smile before I sleep – or did I totally misinterpret anxiety? I think you are doing fine, don’t stress!

    • Cathy says:

Andi – thank you for the confirmation – that list is going to the bookmarks! I may try to get to Liz Strauss, Scocco, and Chris Brogan’s blogs, as Jendi suggested. And my goal in life is to take things a little less seriously, so I’m glad that I made you smile. We human beings tend to live with huge baggage, and I just think it isn’t worth it most of the time! And my personal philosophy is that most of us bloggers are using it for one kind of therapy or another anyway. And if you can’t laugh at THAT, what can ya laugh at you know?

Oh – And I love how you think about the lists. I am going to check that off my list then. :) Hmm. Day 3. I guess I would agree that is a good way to promote a blog, but I think there is probably a learning curve on it, so it is time consuming to promote through social media, until we get some sort of ‘system’ in place or something. The only one that I am comfortable with is twitter. I quite enjoy twitter, actually. :)

And I’m honored that you read this before going to bed! May you have sweet dreams of my words floating in your head all night long. Sigh. that makes me happy, cause contrary to the Frazzled Mom, it IS all about me. :D

  3. The Frazzled Mama says:

First, I want to say I am enjoying your site, having only found it a few weeks ago.

Second, I started the 31dbbb yesterday, and I didn’t get very far, but here is my elevator pitch:

Who is The Frazzled Mama? I am a Christian, thirty-something, happily married, homeschooling mom to four amazing kiddos (who doesn’t think their kids are amazing?).

I hope that you will find encouragement here, as I share my life, and the things the Lord is teaching me.

My motto: It’s not about me!

    • Cathy says:

Yay! 4 of us now. :) I was telling Jendi, that I’m a little nervous about joining the forums because I feel so lost – who do you follow? And how do you know who to follow? And then if they stop writing, then you’ve got to find new people to follow. the whole thing makes me wanna down a jug of the nearest “grown up beverage”. :) So, Ms. Frazzled, do you go by “frazzled”? What shall we call you?

On your motto – I liked that you included your motto, and your hopes for the site too. I think that tells a lot about what I’ll find when I visit!

  4. The Frazzled Mama says:

Well, I do go by The Frazzled Mama for all my online stuff, you know user names, etc. If you get an email from me though, it will be signed “m”. So, take your pick. I went to the problogger forum today and was instantly overwhelmed. So, I think I will hang around here for this project :)

I finished my list post this afternoon. Here is a link if you want to see it.

    • Cathy says:

Hey! It worked! I put in threaded comments so you can
see who I’m responding to! :) Frazzled M, did you
happen to get an email when i wrote this comment?

  5. The Frazzled Mama says:

    No, I didn’t get an email…
