How to Upload and Link Photos and PDFs

If you don’t know how to do this, you are not alone!  Cathy asked me to link up some pdfs to images for a client and I was lost.  Then, she started explaining and made me think, “DUH! I knew that.”  LOL!  It is very easy once you wrap your mind around it.  Hopefully this picture full, step-by-step post will help you to do just that.

For example, I am using a test image (on the left) and the header on my brand new personal site to show what I mean.  If you click the “test” image, you will open up the image of my new header. Neat, huh?

Lots of people do this for portfolios.  I could do a page that shows my header and when you click the header, it opens up info on the designer including how to contact them.  Or, I could put a picture from my magazine article and clicking the picture could open up a PDF file of that complete article.

So, let us find out how to do that!

Step #1 – Go to your media library and choose “add new”. I actually like to have two windows open, one with the media library open and one open with the post I am working on.

Step #2 - upload the PDF or file that you want the picture to open. Simply click “select files” and choose the file from your computer that you want.

Step #3 –  Save the link! If you have more than one window open, this makes it a bit easier to get back and forth instead of having to open notebook or something to save that link.  See the picture below to know what I mean about “saving the link”

Step #4 –  Add the image to your post. Now, that you have uploaded the file or images that you want to open when people click an image in your post, you need to get your post going.  Below, you see a test post that I started to get screen shots.  Click the little square under the permalink and choose a picture that you want to show within your post or page.

Step #5 – Make it link to the correct place! Once you click the above-mentioned button and choose a picture from your computer, you get this little window.  Choose the size you want your picture to be as well as the alignment.  In the “link URL” box, paste the link that you saved in the first steps.  Then, click “insert into post”

That’s it!  Save your post as a draft and click the “preview” button so you can test it out.  How did that work for you?  If you still don’t get it, open a support ticket and I will jump right on it. :-)
