WordPress Themes

There are two parts to building a custom theme.  a)  the design  b) the software

I look after the software part of your custom theme.  For the design, I have worked with some great designers and can provide referrals – simply contact me and ask about them.

Each WordPress theme (the software) comes with:

  • Genesis Framework & Custom Child Theme (see FAQ below for more information)
  • a widgetized home page template
  • up to 2 custom menu locations
  • a customized Page template
  • a customized Blog template(if separate from the home page)
  • a customized Category / Archive template
  • custom Favicon
  • social networks integration

Of course there is a lot more that you may like to customize in your WordPress theme, please contact us for a quote.

From your designer we will need the following in a layered photoshop image (no image groups please):

  • Page page

And we’ll need to discuss your use of the site, content management, data input so that we can create an easy-to-use site for you.

2.  Finalize project details

  • agree on price
  • sign contract
  • schedule milestone dates; launch date
  • 10% booking fee (non-refundable)

3.  Begin project

  • test site will be available for viewing progress and communicating feedback

4.  Home page approval

  • home page approval sought first before completion of other pages/ templates
  • 40% of total is payable

5.  Complete test site

  • dummy content will be available for you to test your new site’s functions
  • thorough testing of links, images, browsers, and operating systems
  • small edits allowed & encouraged

6.  Training

  • It’s important for us to have 45 minutes on the phone to discuss your site’s functions and walk through any questions that you have.
  • More time can be scheduled at your leisure for an additional fee

  • post-launch support includes unlimited email support
  • 2 days of post-launch small edits

Frequently Asked Questions

1.  What is a ‘framework’?

If you’ve been using WordPress for a while, a theme framework may be a new idea to you.  But you’ll also know that WordPress is constantly evolving into an easier to use, adaptable publishing platform.   Using a framework allows you to take advantage of the newest features in WordPress without breaking your styles or the appearance of your site.  Gone are the days of having to ‘update’ your design – aka buying a new one – to keep up with the fabulous WordPress team. All you need to keep updated is the Genesis Framework (which, by the way, comes with handy-dandy “click here to upgrade” link when it is needed).

2.  What is a child theme?

This is the latest technique to keep your design up-to-date without the cost of a new theme.  The StudioPress Genesis Framework is the basis of our child themes. This framework is supported by a professional company who will be providing the core updates. The framework is yours and comes with free upgrades for life. The child theme is the custom-part of the framework that we will create for you, and will be available exclusively for you and your site(s).
